In this hybris-commissioned study, Forrester Consulting surveyed 156 marketing, IT & eCommerce professionals at European firms with at least $20m in online revenues (and an additional combined quantitative/qualitative survey with senior executives at 21 European CSP firms) and found that eCommerce executives are increasingly reliant on commerce service providers (CSP) to help them architect, select, implement and support their commerce technology while simultaneously seeking collaboration with strategy and customer experience. Companies that are measuring RPV for use in general e-Commerce optimization campaigns are at a clear advantage, since RPV is more closely aligned with real dollars and also because those who are using legacy metrics such asconversion rate or bounce rate run the risk of implementing poor performers.
This flexibility helps online platforms attain the necessary liquidity for becoming self-sustaining; however, whenever you are managing verticals in one sector (i.e. being active in the manufacturing and distribution processes) then putting your hands into too many other sectors can be dicey until liquidity is obtained.
The challenge in the company I work for (the retail arm of a bank) is getting out of the mindset of numerous departments producing endless reports from different databases(just because they always have), and instead concentrating on having a set of shared KPIs (with both online and offline components) based on the customer lifecycle that reflect a sustainable business performance vs. the organisational structure.
And if any of you think you can get away without creating a detailed plan – remember that 77% of marketing professionals think a planned approach focusing on analytics and continues optimisation is the most effect way of managing digital marketing, whilst only 14% thought a relatively unplanned, reactive approach was best.
